Short Story

Netherlands

My name is Haroun. I am 17 years old, and I live in Gaza.

I never thought I would be in a position where I had to write something like this. I was raised to be strong, to keep going no matter what. But today, I am tired. I am hungry. And I am afraid that the world has forgotten people like me.

For many days now, I haven’t had a proper meal. Sometimes I drink water just to quiet the pain in my stomach. Sometimes, there is no clean water at all. Every day is a struggle to survive. Bombs have fallen on my home in Shuja’iyya. Electricity comes for maybe an hour, sometimes not at all. I have no school anymore, no safety, and very little hope left at this point.

What hurts the most is not the hunger — it’s feeling invisible. Like my life doesn’t matter to anyone.

Claudia is my friend, my buddy. She gives me strength just by listening, by caring. She asked if she could share my story, and I agreed. Not because I want pity, but because I need help.

If you are reading this, I’m asking you, from the bottom of my heart: please don’t look away. Even a small donation can help me buy food, or something as simple as soap or painkillers.

You may never meet me. But your kindness could save my life. Please remember me. I am still here.

With hope, Haroun

Hi There amazing human being taking the time to read Harouns story! My name is Claudia. I’m a mental health nurse based in the Netherlands. In my free time, I support people in Gaza — not through a big organization, but as a human being who believes no one deserves to be forgotten.

I’m part of Support2Gazans, a grassroots volunteer initiative that connects individuals in Gaza with ‘buddies’ — people like me who offer direct support, person to person.

My buddy is Haroun. He’s 17.

He is a older brother with a big family, with also little ones that dont understand what is happening they only know to be scared, hungry and tired.

Haroun is far too young to have known this much hunger, fear, and loss. He lives in Gaza, where every day is a fight to survive. He hasn’t had a proper meal in days. There’s no food, barely any water, and almost no help reaching him anymore.

When I spoke to him, he barely had words. He’s ashamed to ask. But hunger leaves no room for pride.

Please, if you’re reading this — help. Even a small donation can mean food, water, and a reminder that he’s not alone. That his life matters.

I’ll keep doing everything I can. But I can’t do it alone. Help me help Haroun.

Thank you, Claudia Support2Gazans – Buddy & Organizer
